Line management responsibility for safety
The team or managers and supervisors in any organisation has been appointed for their leadership skills, knowledge of processes and understanding of tasks. Why should the delegation of health and safety management be any different? Yes, some training and guidance will be necessary – nothing new in that – but good safety management is about what happens at the coalface; where hazards and risk actually occur. Ultimate responsibility must remain in the boardroom, but safety should be an integrated part of the job, not a bolt-on.
